DORIS REESE McCLESKEY, 94, of Asheville, North Carolina died peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 25, at Givens Estates United Methodist Retirement Community, where she lived for the last 15 years.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, she lived in Tampa, Florida from 1951-2000. She was a member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa for 64 years, where she was a lifetime Honorary Member of the Administrative Board. At Givens she was the longtime volunteer coordinator for the resident-operated Gift Shop, benefiting the Residents Assistance Fund. She took a special interest in helping to welcome and orient new residents to Givens, and she was dearly loved by residents and staff there. A person of deep faith and great courage, she was a blessing to her friends and family.
She was predeceased in 1998 by her husband of 59 years, Waller McCleskey. She is survived by a son, Lawrence, and his wife, Margaret; a son, Stanley, and his wife, Karen; a daughter, Sara M. Luciene, and her husband, Bob; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a brother, two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Committal of her body will be in the Garden of Memories, Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday, December 2, 11:00 AM. Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Tampa, on Wednesday, December 2, 3:00 PM, and in the Chapel at Givens Estates, Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday, December 5, 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt St., Tampa, Florida 33606, or to the Residents Assistance Fund at Givens Estates, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Sorry to hear of your mother\’s death. I am grateful that I visited her last Tuesday and prayed with her. She was a very special person and I appreciated her participation in my Bible class at Givens. Hope to see you all at her service at Givens.
