Edith Jervis Patterson, 96, formerly of 250 Cathey Road, Candler, died Saturday, June 1, 2002.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Madison County, spent many of her early childhood years in Swain County, and resided in Buncombe County for most of her adult life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha D. and Callie Payne Jervis, her husband, Fred G. Patterson who died in 1967, and by a daughter, Freda, who died in 1941.
Mrs. Patterson taught in the Swain County Public School System for 16 years prior to moving to Buncombe County in 1932. She was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church where she taught the Ladies’ Bible Class for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Harrell and her husband Odell of Sanford, with whom Mrs. Patterson resided for most of the past seven years; one son, Jervis Daniel Patterson and his wife Glenda of Candler; two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Sunday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Neil Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times will be at the home of Dan Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snow Hill United Methodist Church, 84 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Mrs. Patterson.
She was a blessing to me and to all who met her.
