Edith M. Jordan

Asheville – Edith M. Jordan passed away peacefully Thursday April 21, 2022 at Brookdale Overlook Extended Care Facility in Asheville. Edith was born in Exeter, Maine November 28, 1924. She was educated in Troy, Maine schools, graduating from Unity High School in 1942. She later was graduated from Pelletier’s school of Beauty culture in Lewiston, Maine. During WWII, she worked for New England Tel & Tel in Bangor as a telephone operator, The Verney Brunswick Textile Mill in Thopsham making parachute cloth for the war effort and as a hair dresser in Bath Maine, where she met her future Mother-in-Law as a client.

She is predeceased in death by her parents, Harold and Pearl Nutter of Troy, Maine; two Sisters, Forestine Heath of Searsport , Maine, and Madeline Bellows of Hendersonville, NC; Her husband, Gordan A. Estes of South Portland, and second husband Millard M. Jordan of Portland. She is survived by her son Barry Estes of Asheville, NC; a nephew, Roderick Bellows of Travelers Rest, SC and two nieces, Nedra Murphy of Lincolnville, Maine and Marcia Hast of Searsport, Maine.

Edith was a long time resident of the Stanwood Park neighborhood in South Portland and worked for many years at Porteous – Mitchell – & Braun in downtown Portland. She and Millard Jordan moved to Dunedin Florida in 1968, where she worked for many years at Mease Hospital, retiring as an EKG Technician. She later worked at the Country Side Mall, primarily in the Hallmark Card shop. She moved to Asheville, NC in 2016. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A private service will be held at a later date. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
