Edna Bates Parker

Edna Bates Parker, 87, of 131 Brooks Cove Road, Candler, died
Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998.
A native of Buncombe Co., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and
Ella Spivey Bates and wife of the late Dewey Parker, Sr.
She was a former resident of Miami, Florida where she was a member
of the Coconut Grove Women's Club, the Shenandoah Baptist Church and
a retired employee of Burdines Department Store with 30 years service.
She had been a resident of Asheville since June 1998 and was a member
of the Liberty Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Dewey Parker, Jr. of Miami, Fla.; a sister,
Edith Lance of Asheville; brother Marvin Bates of Asheville and several
nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 pm Saturday at Pisgah View
Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. Gene King.  
The family will receive friends from 11:45 am until 12:45 pm Saturday at
Groce Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of Addie
and M.J. Rickman, 131 Brooks Cove Road, Candler.
