Edward John Schwarz, 89, of 315 Foxcroft Drive, Asheville, husband of Mary Goforth Arrington Schwarz, died Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home, Candler.
Mr. Schwarz was born in Savannah, GA, and was raised in Philadelphia, PA. He was a son of the late Otto and Charlotte Schwarz and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Rogers Schwarz, his brothers and sister, Ernest, Ott and Lottie, and two nephews, Robert and Ernest
Schwarz.
He earned his degree in metallurgy from Temple University and owned and operated a metal sales jobbing company. Mr. Schwarz maintained offices in New York City and Charlotte but his profession working with major manufacturing concerns took him around the world.
He was also the first mayor of Yardley, PA.
He lived in Asheville for a number of years and he was an active member and former officer of the Hominy Valley United Methodist Men and a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. He was a member and former officer of the Land-of-the Sky Shrine and a 33rd degree Mason and member of Hominy Lodge #491 AF & AM.
Ed will be remembered by many of his friends by his rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” which he readily sang with little prompting, and which he actually performed at Wrigley Field with Harry Carey, the famous Chicago Cubs public address announcer.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Goforth Arrington Schwarz; two daughters, Carol Ruth Schwarz of Tallahassee, FL and Barbara Krieger and her husband Edwin of Tampa, FL; two step-daughters, Robin Devlin and her husband Ernest of Candler and Susan Watkins and her husband Jim of McLeansville, NC; and seven
grandchildren, Heidi Krieger of Atlanta and Matthew Krieger of Tampa, FL, Danielle and Sarah Devlin of Candler and Jacob, James and Mary Ann Watkins of McLeansville.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Carpenter officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites provided by the Hominy Lodge.
His family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Ed will be remembered by all who knew him as a happy man with a generous heart, helping the less fortunate, especially the physically impaired children, through his unselfish service to the Shriners Hospitals and Burns Centers.
We will never forget that Great Big Smile that was always there anytime he was present anywhere.

Ed was unique with his quick wit and ever present smile and he will be missed. We feel blessed to have known him and keep all of you in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
