Edward Lee McGlamery, Jr., 71, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Ed was born in Asheville, NC, to the late Eddie and Jenia McGlamery in December, 1952. He grew up on Brevard Road, in Asheville. He was part of the first graduating class of Asheville High School in 1970, then attended night school, graduating from AB-Technical College with an associates degree. Ed worked for Kraft General Foods as Account Manager for 35 years, retiring in 2007.

In 1970, Ed married his wife, Sharon, and they shared 54 loving years together, raising two children, Jenny and Jon, in a home they built in Candler. As lifelong Christians, Ed and Sharon were member of Bent Creek Baptist Church, where he served on the Elder Committee and volunteered with the Awana Group. For many years, Ed was also a member of the West Asheville Little League, serving as a team coach, volunteer, and president of the league.

Ed enjoyed spending his time in many ways. He could often be found in his yard tending his roses, woodworking in his workshop, or taking his beloved dog, Finn, for a golfcart ride. He was an avid golfer, often practicing his swing, chip, or putt. He always found joy being on the golf course, but Ed was truly at his happiest when in the company of his beloved family and friends.

Ed is survived by his wife, Sharon McGlamery; son, Jon McGlamery; daughter, Jennifer McGlamery and her partner Casey Barrett; his sisters, Mary Ann Conrad and husband Mike, and Jean Roberts and husband Toby; and godchildren, Toby Roberts, Zoe Roberts, and Ava Butler. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Millie Bell, and his brother, Jim McGlamery.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family requests to wear your favorite golf attire in honor of Ed.

  5. Oh Sharon, I can’t even imagine what you’re going through and the kids Ed sure was a great man, father , Christian man and what a great husband he was he sure did. Love you and those kids I remember many of times spending the night at the house on Bernard Road when you guys were dating. Man, I miss those times . Me and Millie gave him a run for his money, but he always kept us straight. I want you to know I’m thinking about you and the kids. My heart aches for you so much. I love you guys and again my prayers are with you.

I enjoyed every minute I was ever with him! I enjoyed the many times he would come see me and dad at ingles and we’d talk sports and politics or whatever! I would help him with a ad or promotion for Kraft and helping him with the food shows. Great memories that I will always cherish! 17. Sharon, Jenny, and, Jon. We love you so much and are thinking about you in this time of immense loss. Ed was such a light whenever we all got together with our North Carolina family. We absolutely adore you all and am so sorry for the loss of Ed. He was an outstanding guy with so much love surrounding him.

  18. Ed was one of the first people I met when I got into the sales world. He walked me through many obstacles in dealing with certain customers. He was a great man, always smiling and willing to go out of his way to help. I am so sad for Sharon and the family. Rest in Peace, my friend

  19. Ed, you’re a man not many get to experience in their lifetime. The ones blessed with your smile know the greatness held in your heart for everyone around you is unmeasurable. We’re all beginning to feel the weight you carried with you being as strong as you are. Golf in peace good buddy.

    Love from us all, Casey.

  20. I am truly heartbroken to learn of Ed’s passing. Ed was my mentor when I first started with Kraft, living and working a territory in Asheville in the early 80’s. He always went above and beyond to help guide me through those early years and throughout all of the many years that we worked together. Ed was admired and respected by everyone that I knew with Kraft and throughout the food industry. Ed had such an easygoing demeanor and a great sense of humor – the very definition of a “people person”! Though he is in paradise now, I know he will be greatly missed by those that knew him. My deepest condolences. Bob Darden

  21. I have such wonderful memories of my dear cousin Edward. We sang old commercials for Tuberose Snuff and he called me Arthur to make me laugh. What a wonderful childhood we had! I will miss him on this earth – no doubt but he has the best company in heaven with his parents and siblings. Rest well.

  22. Sharon & Family,
I was so very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. I enjoyed knowing him from Ingles and Kraft. He touched a lot of peoples lives just knowing him and his family.
Please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

    Larry Davis

  23. Ed was often a voice of reason, often a volunteer when help was needed, and generous with his time. Lots of boys became good men due to his influence in their lives through his coaching. He was a positive role model in so many ways. Praying that Sharon, Jen and Jon feel peace, even in their sorrow, knowing that he has achieved the goal he lived for.
    Love and prayers,
    Randy & Sandi Turbyfill
