Biltmore Forest, NC ~ On August 21, 2006, Eddie Dixon, a contractor and local businessman, succumbed to cancer at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Eddie was born March 23, 1939 in Asheville to the late Mary Mulvaney and A.S. Dixon. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Dixon and by his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Barrett Dixon. Eddie attended Asheville City Schools and graduated from St. Francis School for Boys in Asheville. He received a B.S. degree in business administration from Western Carolina University. Eddie was a veteran, having served four years in the United States Air Force. He won the distinguished honor of being named the ?Airman of the Month? on several occasions for his 4th A & E Squadron, the 4th Fighter Tactical Wing and the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. He was a finalist for the ?Airman of the Year? for the entire United States Air Force. As president and CEO of the Bonitz Company of Carolina-Tennessee, Eddie performed work in seven states and Washington, DC. He was a member of the Association of General Contractors, the Basilica of St. Lawrence, DM, the Biltmore Forest Country Club and the Fripp Island Beach Club. Eddie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Morton Dixon and daughter Angela Dalton Wilson and her husband Wayne. He was known as ?Little Papa? to his grandchildren, Spenser James Dalton, Connor Franklin Dalton, Erin Elizabeth Wilson, Ian Clayton Wilson, Patrick Hayden Wilson and Conor McKinley Wilson. Other survivors are Keith Morton and his wife Nancy, Roy Morton and his wife Mary Ruth, William Carver and several nieces and nephews. The highlights of Eddie?s life were his family and his work. His unconditional love and stewardship towards others will be sustained in the memory of all who knew him. His favorite past times were watching his grandsons play sports, Clemson football, golf and time spent on Fripp Island, SC. A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence on Haywood Street. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 PM on Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Buncombe County School Foundation, 175 Bingham Road, Asheville, NC 28806 for the ?Elizabeth Barrett Dixon Memorial Scholarship Fund of TC Roberson High School?.

    I’m sorry that I was unable to attend Eddie’s Funeral. My wife was being operated on for breast cancer Wednesday afternoon. I brought her home late Wednesday night and I had to stay with her today; please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have very fond memories of the Dixon family. May God in his infinite wisdom sustain all of you in the days ahead.

As I saw Eddie’s picture I had the funniest memory of all of us- girls and parents- at Corbins during Salem graduation– seems like a million years ago, but just yesterday!

  11. i was so sadden to hear the passing of eddie. i dealt with him on many occasions. he bought from the company i work for insulation systems inc. he was always just such a pleasant man. i will miss his voice.

    So sorry to hear of Eddies passing. I so enjoyed taking care of him at Asheville Hematology. He kept his positive attitude while he was so ill. He made my task of caring for him easier through our uplifting chats. Nancy you were always there by his side cheering him on. He is at peace now with our Heavenly Father, no sickness now. My life was made richer just by getting to know him. My heartfelt sympathy to each of you.
