Eleanor M. Heil, 88, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Mission Hospital.
Mrs. Heil was born August 22, 1936 in the Bronx, NY. She was a daughter of the late Diedrich H. Meyer and Magda Bruggmann Meyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Jason Heil.
Eleanor was a devoted math teacher at the Elementary and Middle School levels for over 35 years. She taught in Candler, NC as well as Virginia Beach, VA. Eleanor developed several lifelong friendships with many of her students.
Eleanor also enjoyed reading, traveling abroad and taking long road trips in the N.C. mountains. She was an avid artist and made many beautiful holiday ceramic pieces for her family as well as knit baby blankets for her great-grandchildren.
One of her fondest memories was being her sons Cub Scout Troop leader and dancing with her husband.
She is survived by three sons, Lawrence Heil, William Heil and Robert Heil and wife LeAnn; grandchildren, William Heil (Rachel), Casey Heil, Annie Rossley (Tyler), Megan Revson (Will), Alex Turner (Chase) and Kate Mills (John); 9 great-grandchildren; as well as her very dear friend, Glenda Patterson.
The family expresses gratitude to her caregiver Garren Ivers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 11 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Travis Smith officiating.
Burial will be held at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain.
