FLETCHER ~ Elizabeth 'Betty' Moore Parks of Concord Road, died Thursday, June 24, 1999 in the Hospice Solace Center.

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Marjorie and John W. Moore and wife of Ross L. Parks.  

She graduated from Salem College, served in the Navy during WW II, and earned a second bachelor's degree at UNC Chapel Hill.

She was a leader in her community and church activities everywhere she lived.  After the 1975 murder of her oldest child, Betsy Parks Rosenberg, she focused her energies on assisting survivors of homicide victims.  She held leadership positions at the local, state and national levels of Parents of Murdered Children, Inc. and received several awards for her service to the community.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Tom Parks and Jean Parks; sons-in-law Ed Rosenberg and Art Grand; a brother, John Moore; a sister, Marge Perrin and a large extended family.

The family appreciates the many expressions of love and respect shown to Betty during her recent illness.

They will receive friends in the Parish Hall of the Cathedral of All Souls, from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday.

A funeral service will be held in the Cathedral of All Souls, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Reverend Charles Winters and the Reverend Jan Walker officiating.

Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P. O. Box 16, Asheville, NC  28802, or to one's favorite charity.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of local arrangements.
