ELIZABETH (BETTY) BUFFLAP Asheville - Elizabeth Caroline Bové Bufflap, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend died peacefully Friday, August 20, 2010, at the John Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Born on November 24, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Frances Richard Bové and Viola Theresa Rice Bové, she is predeceased by her sister Frances Bové Berry and her grandchild, Caroline Ida Peerless. After graduating from Ellis College for Girls, Newtown Square, PA she earned a bachelor's degree in Business Education from Shippensburg University in 1942. She taught high school business in Ridley Township, Clifton Heights and Oxford, PA. She moved to Asheville with her husband and daughters in 1960, where she taught at Blanton's Business School. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1970-71 by the North Carolina Association of Business Colleges. She and her devoted husband of sixty-five years were longtime members of the Asheville Country Club and the Mountain Buggies, Oasis Temple of the Shriners. She played golf, shared beekeeping, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, delighted in gardening, and grew magnificent roses. She prepared many delicious meals for her family and friends. She loved nature, fed the birds and lovingly cared for dogs, and her cat. She was a passionate supporter of the Humane Society. She was a faithful member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Asheville. Besides her husband Carl Adrian Bufflap, Jr. she is survived by her sister, (Billie) Alma McDonnell Gilson; two daughters, Cathy Bufflap Peerless, of West Granby, CT and Nancy Elizabeth Bufflap Creedmore and husband Chip, of Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren, James Samuel Peerless of Boston, MA, Hannah Elizabeth Peerless of Arcata, CA, and US Army Captain Jacob Carl Peerless, and his wife Reneé Ayotte Peerless, of Ipswich, NH, and a great-grandson Samuel Joseph Peerless. A memorial service to celebrate her life and unwavering devotion to her family and friends will be at 5:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Donations may be made in her memory to The Shriner's Children's Hospital, c/o Desert Dust, Oasis Shriners, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262-8410, or to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, 64 N. French Broad Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
