Asheville ~ Ella Mae Cook Brookshire, 78, of Donnybrook Drive, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Brookshire was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Clinton James Cook and Alma Bates Cook and the wife of the late James B. Brookshire who died in 1975. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Frank Cook. Mrs. Brookshire was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, David James Brookshire and his wife, Sharon of Asheville; two sisters, Frances Rice and her husband, Harvey of Asheville and Addie Rickman and her husband, Merritt of Candler; two brothers, Jerry Cook and his wife, Jane of Hendersonville and James Cook and his wife, Inez of Asheville and three grandsons; David Mark Brookshire and his wife, Kelly, Matthew and Noah Brookshire; and one great-grandson, Drake Brookshire,and her sister-in-law, Julia Cook; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 15th at the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with the Reverend John Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery in Hendersonville.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
