Eloise Davis Sumerel, 93, formerly of Asheville, passed away January 2, 2018, in Brecksville, OH.
A native of Wayne Co., NC, Mrs. Sumerel was a daughter of the late John Wright Davis and Effie McDonald Davis. She was married for 55 years to Elmo D. Sumerel, Sr., who died in 2000.
Mrs. Sumerel was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Asheville and served as the Director of the Child Care Center of West Asheville Baptist Church for many years.
She is remembered fondly for her devoted love for children and her commitment to her faith and the work of the church.
She is survived by sons, David Sumerel and wife Dee, Gordon Sumerel and wife Jan, and Stephen Sumerel and wife Marie; grandchildren Yvonne Giannini (Randy), Wren Miller (Kurt), Shell Sumerel (Trent Edwards), John Luke Sumerel, Thomas Sumerel; great-grand children, Isabella and Mackenzie Giannini, and Finn Miller.
Graveside service will be at 2 pm Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler, NC, with Dr. Steve Pressley officiating.
Gordon- Sorry to hear about your Mom. Condolences to you and your family. I lost my mom in ’06 and Dad in 2000. Haven’t seen you in what-50 years? Wow.

The loss of a cherished loved one is the most devastating experiences a family can face. At times, the loss may seem unbearable. Please know that there are family and friends who care and more importantly Psalm 34:18 tells us that ‘God is near to those that are broken at heart. He is the God of all comfort. God will comfort you during this difficult time of grief. Our prayers are also with you and your family.
Myrna and I send our condolences on the loss of your mother to Gordon, David, and Stephen. She was a good and sweet person and I’m sure she was a proud grandmother.
I have such fond memories of Mrs Sumeral! She was a devoted & wonder lady! I learned a lot from her at WABC! My prayers are with her family!
