Arden ~ Ernestine Milam Thompson, 91, of Appalachian Way died Friday, August 25, 2006 at Mountain Area Hospice. A native of Hawkinsville, GA, Mrs. Thompson was a resident of Arden, NC since 1995. She was the daughter of the late James and Lizzie Milam and the wife of John H. Thompson, who died in 1976. She was a master gardener, a skilled quilter, a talented decorator, and a memorable cook. She dearly loved her large and extended family. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, GA, where she taught Sunday school and sang soprano in the choir. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC. Surviving are two daughters, Tina Naegle and her husband, John, of Atlanta, and Sandra Stribling and her husband, Guerry, of West Palm Beach, Florida; a son, John Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Hendersonville, NC; nine grandchildren, Hanna, Garret, and Olivia Naegle, Lisa White, Lu Kantlehner, Guerry Stribling, Jr., Tom Stribling, John Thompson III, and Caitlyn Thompson. Mrs. Thompson is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:00 AM, at Hawkinsville First Baptist Church under the direction of Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville, GA. Dr. Don McClung will officiate with burial afterward in Orange Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church, Broad St. & McCormick Ave., Hawkinsville, GA 31036 or to the Solace Center- Mountain Area Hospice, 85 Zillicoa St., Asheville, NC 28801. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is serving the Thompson family locally.
