Esther Marion Colton, 96, of Arden, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Lodge At Mills River.
A native of Alexander, NY, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Mary Hickox Maggione. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert G. Colton; siblings, Marie Childs, Norman Maggione and Walter Maggione; one nephew, Richard Simons and one brother-in-law, George Simons.
She is survived by two sisters, Geraldine Simons and Virginia Doughty (Harold); six nieces and nephews, including Charlotte Simons and Bill Simons; eight great-nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Esther served her country in the US Army as a nurse in Japan. After her time in the service, she graduated from the University in Buffalo with a nursing degree and went on to work as a school nurse in NY. She loved crafts and was a very skilled crafts-woman. Esther was a member of PEO.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 3 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Her family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Esther’s ashes will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery in NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Esther’s name to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 789 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804.

Esther, Jerrie (Geraldine) and George endeared themselves to us through the Bertha Lewis Class at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.It was Esther who called us back into service to teach the class.
We love and admire the family and pray the greatest of God’s blessing upon Esther as she enters her new journey.
