Eula Brooks Penland

Eula Brooks Penland, 87, of 306 Riverview Drive, Asheville, went home to be with our Lord, Thursday, January 20, 2005. Mrs. Penland was a native of Buncombe County and was the daughter of the late Samuel “Gus” Brooks and Maggie Jenkins Brooks. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfred J. Penland. Mrs. Penland was a charter member of Bent Creek Baptist Church. She worked as an inspector for the Hadley’s Corporation and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by one son, Bruce Penland and his wife Pat of Leicester; two daughters, Sandra Hudgins of Candler and Brenda Davis, and husband Bill of Swannanoa; a sister, Margaret Israel of Asheville; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. As well as her beloved friend, Emma Rice of Asheville. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Lewis O. Bartlett and Steve McLemore officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
