Frances Allison Whitt, a lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, died Monday, August 18, 2008 aged 87 years. Frances was born December 11, 1920 in Sylva, NC, the third of 5 children of John Claude Allison of Jackson County, NC and Florence Marie Barrett of Portland, OR. She was a graduate of Western Carolina teachers College ( present Western Carolina University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. During World War II, she taught school in both Sylva and Walkertown, NC. In 1942, she was united in marriage to Bailey Z. Whitt of Marshall, NC with whom she was married 62 years at his death in 2004. To this union were born 3 children, Candy Whitt of Arden, Bruce Whitt who resides with his wife Phyllis in Candler and Linda Whitt Jorgensen of Asheville. Frances was very active in charity work and served as president of the Sand Hill Good Neighbor Club for 25 years. The club raised money for community service projects by making and selling handmade crafts along with baked goods and canned foods. In addition, she served for many years as the district captain of the American Cancer Crusade. In addition to her three children, she is survived by six grandchildren; Roman Young, Christopher Young, Kelby Whitt, Marc Whitt, Courtney Jorgensen Davis and Beau Whitt. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. with Revs. Bill Michael Jones and Jeane S. Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

    I will never forget your mother. She was a very sweet lady. I remember back over 35 years ago when she and your dad used to visit you. What great people. My prayers are with you. May the blessing of heaven rest upon you and your family during this hour of desolation. May you find peace and comfort in the knowlege that she is now with God and the suffering is over.

    She was a sweet lady. She would always have a smile and a kind word everytime I saw her during my times at my grandparents house Lacy and Paunee Byrd. Sorry for the delay in writing but I just recently found out about your mother passing. May God continue to bless all of you.
