Frank Leighton Peake, Jr., 79, of Fletcher, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. A native of Rocky Mount, VA, he was the son of the late Frank Leighton Peake, Sr. and Martha Holland Peake. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Martha Ann Naff and her husband, Euell Naff. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Genie Peake; two sons, Jeff Peake and his wife, Tracey, of Clayton, NC, and Steve Peake and his wife, Angie, of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Hayden Peake and Holly Peake, both of Clayton, NC; and one nephew, Leighton Naff, of Lexington, KY. A Veteran of the US Army, Frank was a proud graduate of the University of Virginia and enjoyed history, especially related to the Civil War. He and Genie were longtime members of Skyland United Methodist Church. Frank enjoyed being an usher and took on additional roles within the church over the past several years. He was strongly devoted to his children and grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Skyland United Methodist Church, with Reverend Wes Sharpe officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 3:00-4:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 19 at High Street Cemetery in Rocky Mount, VA under the direction of Flora Funeral Service (florafuneralservice.com). In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that memorial donations be made to Skyland United Methodist Church, 1984 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family locally.

  1. So sorry to hear this news. I was a close friend of Fleta Cloyd and she spoke of Genie and Frank so often. Peace and comfort to all who loved him.

  2. Frankie–I’ve always called him that and Martha Ann and I were lifelong friends. They both were great in every way. I am so saddened by the sudden death of Frankie that I can hardly write. He was such a fine man, so stalwart and true–a Virginia Gentleman, for sure, and I will miss him and Martha Ann for the rest of my life. I send my deepest sympathy to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
