Frank Ray Israel, 81, formerly of Candler, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 in Kalkaska, MI. Mr. Israel was born June 16, 1922, in Buncombe County to the late Robert Sam and Nellie Carver Israel. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Clark Israel who died July 21, 2000, three brothers and two sisters. He was a Navy veteran of WW II and was retired from B.A.S.F. of Wyandotte, MI after 30 years. He was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church in Candler until moving to Kalkaska in August, 2000, where he attended the Kalkaska Church of Christ. Surviving are one daughter, Sheila Ann Tweed and her husband J.C. of Candler; one son, David Israel and his wife Nanette of Kalkaska; six grandchildren, Lisa Marie Israel, David John Israel, Lyndsay Jean Israel, Frank Oliver Israel, Rachel Massie and Ashley Burgess; six great-grandchildren; and by his brothers and sisters, Reva Angel, Robert Israel and his wife Sue, and Gay Israel and his wife Shirley, all of Leicester and Sue Miller of Greenville, SC. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Roy Houston, Hubert Price and Charles Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Case Cove Road, Candler, NC 28715, or to Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801.
