February 10, 1954 ~ August 25, 2021

Born in: Buncombe County, NC
Resided in: Fletcher, NC

Gale Wilkie of Fletcher, NC, went home to be with her Lord on August 25, 2021, at her home in Hoopers Creek. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children and all her grandchildren after a long battle with cancer, “fully trusting” in her Heavenly Father each step of the way, never complaining.

She was the daughter of the late Jerome “Perry” Baker and Blanche Ellen Souther Baker and a lifelong resident of Hoopers Creek. After many years as a homemaker, she then worked for 31 years as a teacher’s assistant at Fletcher Elementary School loving each child and making a big impact on many children’s lives. She was an accomplished seamstress making everything from her children/grandchildren’s clothes, three-piece men’s suits and even wedding
dresses for her and her daughter. A phenomenal cook who always loved to share her home cooked meals, serving many friends, evangelist and missionaries who were passing through. She was a faithful member and actively served in many capacities at Fletcher First Baptist Church. She was a woman of great faith and touched many lives through her service and prayers.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Eugene Baker.

She is remembered by her husband of 47 years, Gary Mitchell Wilkie, her son, Richard “Jerome” Wilkie and his wife Amy of Fletcher, her daughter, Cristy Gale Youngblood and her husband Eddie of Fletcher. Gale is also remembered by her six grandchildren: Dakota Youngblood and his girlfriend Matana Dalton, Ivey Wilkie and his wife Grace, Emma Wilkie, Savanna Youngblood, Isaac Wilkie, and Avlyn Wilkie, along with her niece and nephews.

Services will be held at Fletcher First Baptist Church on Sunday the 29th. There will be a viewing to start at 2:30 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 pm. A graveside interment service will be held at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church old cemetery on Monday the 30th at 11:00 am.

A special thank you from the family for all your prayers, visits, calls, cards and food not only during this difficult time but throughout this long journey. May the Lord richly bless each of you.

  22. There are some people who make such an impact on your life that you never forget them: Mrs Wilkie was one of those people for me. As many kids as she interacted with each year, she never forgot my name and greeted me with the same sweet smile and hug whenever I saw her. Many years later, she saw my daughter in the hallway at Fletcher Elementary and called her “little Paige” before she even knew for sure she was mine and learned her name. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. My prayers are with you all. ♥️

  23. Gale was always hospitable. She was one of the nicest people God allowed to cross our path during our journey on earth. Gale—a true angel on earth. We will never forget the love she showed us at church and in her home. God allowed one of His brightest and best to come home. Much Love, The Burns Family
