Gale Ann Wilkie

February 10, 1954 ~ August 25, 2021
Born in:
Buncombe County, NC
Resided in:
Fletcher, NC
Gale Wilkie of Fletcher, NC, went home to be with her Lord on August 25, 2021, at her home in Hoopers Creek. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children and all her grandchildren after a long battle with cancer, “fully trusting” in her Heavenly Father each step of the way, never complaining.
She was the daughter of the late Jerome “Perry” Baker and Blanche Ellen Souther Baker and a lifelong resident of Hoopers Creek. After many years as a homemaker, she then worked for 31 years as a teacher’s assistant at Fletcher Elementary School loving each child and making a big impact on many children’s lives. She was an accomplished seamstress making everything from her children/grandchildren’s clothes, three-piece men’s suits and even wedding
dresses for her and her daughter. A phenomenal cook who always loved to share her home cooked meals, serving many friends, evangelist and missionaries who were passing through. She was a faithful member and actively served in many capacities at Fletcher First Baptist Church. She was a woman of great faith and touched many lives through her service and prayers.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Eugene Baker.
She is remembered by her husband of 47 years, Gary Mitchell Wilkie, her son, Richard “Jerome” Wilkie and his wife Amy of Fletcher, her daughter, Cristy Gale Youngblood and her husband Eddie of Fletcher. Gale is also remembered by her six grandchildren: Dakota Youngblood and his girlfriend Matana Dalton, Ivey Wilkie and his wife Grace, Emma Wilkie, Savanna Youngblood, Isaac Wilkie, and Avlyn Wilkie, along with her niece and nephews.
Services will be held at Fletcher First Baptist Church on Sunday the 29th. There will be a viewing to start at 2:30 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 pm. A graveside interment service will be held at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church old cemetery on Monday the 30th at 11:00 am.
A special thank you from the family for all your prayers, visits, calls, cards and food not only during this difficult time but throughout this long journey. May the Lord richly bless each of you.

Mine and Bobbie’s friendship with Gale will never be forgotten. The Picken on that was between her and Bobbie will Be cherished forever. And the bib she made Bobbie will always be remembered, and Gary you will remember it. We still have it and I got it out and looked at it , just a kind memory of our sweet Gale. The last thing she said on the phone to me was do I need to come over and straighten Mr. Bobbie out. She was a faithful friend and a faithful follower of our Lord and Savior. To anyone who grew up in Hooper’s Creek in the late 70’s thru the mid 90’s you probably spent as much time at Gary and Gale’s house as you did your own. They treated you like family because to them you was! Lots of precious memories, Gale was the very definition and perfect example of how Christ wants us to treat one another. Much Love and many prayers to and for this precious family in this time.

There are some people who make such an impact on your life that you never forget them: Mrs Wilkie was one of those people for me. As many kids as she interacted with each year, she never forgot my name and greeted me with the same sweet smile and hug whenever I saw her. Many years later, she saw my daughter in the hallway at Fletcher Elementary and called her “little Paige” before she even knew for sure she was mine and learned her name. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. My prayers are with you all. ♥️
Joy hill I am so sorry for you all god bless you all
One of our sweetest, kindest, most God honoring patients we’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Gale always left us with her blessings and her amazing courage. So grateful for her witness and kindness to all her caregivers along the way. We will miss her testimony and love at our office.

Dear Gary, Cristy and family,
Jody was looking for a friend’s obituary and came across Gale’s. We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Gale was a precious and kind person. She was always very nice to our family and we appreciated her kindness. I know how close your family is and that this is a painful loss for everyone. I lost my dad three years ago and I miss him daily. I pray that God will be an ever present source of comfort for your family and may your precious memories sustain you in the days ahead. I’m ever thankful for the eternal hope that we have and that we can see our loved ones again. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
