Gaylen Kennerly Saunders, 77, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville, NC.
Born in Buncombe Co., she was the daughter of the late Gay and Robina Redmond Kennerly and was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Saunders, Jr.
Mrs. Saunders worked as the Administrative Assistant of the Engineering and Applied Technology Department at AB Tech for over 30 years. She was also a member of the NCAEOP for many years.
Mrs. Saunders was also a very active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church serving on the alter guild for many years, and a long time member of the ECW.
Gaylen attended Leicester High School and Cecil's Business College, and in basketball won best in county in her senior year of high school.
Most of all, Gaylen was a very dedicated mother and wife. She was best known for her smile and her love of people. She will be truly missed by so many that she touched with her effervescent personality.
Mrs. Saunders is survived by her daughter, Suzanne E. Saunders (Michael Ashley Guevara); her son, Dr. John T. Saunders, III, (Deidre); and grandchildren, Katie, Kari and Kyle.
A Requiem Mass will be held at 1:00pm Saturday February 27, 2016 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Fr. Brent Norris officiating.
The family will receive family and friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the mass.
The interment will be at Bell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Leicester at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 337 Charlotte Street, Asheville, NC 28801.

I was blessed to have worked with Gaylen at AB Tech for many years. She was always there to make everything work out the way it should. She will be missed. God bless her family.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept the sympathy of the entire A-B Tech family. Gaylen was a good and loyal employee for many years, as was your dad. We missed her when she retired and will continue to miss her today. A-B Tech was better because of her service to the College.

Sorry to hear of your mothers passing. She was a cousin. Her grandfather Herbert Redmon was my great uncle. My mother was Rosa Lee Redmon Austin. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.
