  2. Dear Pat and family,

Nancy and I were so very sorry to hear about George’s passing. He was such a great guy- I have such wonderful memories of being on Burt Lake with him and his family. Everytime I see a California speed boat, I think of George.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

  3. Condolences to you all on George’s passing. I regret our lack of contact over the years. I am the daughter of D.B. and J.Roger Newstedt, M.D. and the granddaughter of August & Anna Newstedt. My family will be in the U.P. all summer. If you feel so inclined to let me know of the service in Indian River, I would be grateful. With my thoughts and prayers to you all, Anne

  6. Dear Pat, George, Steve and Jamie

We were shocked to hear of George’s passing, he was such a big part of my time at NGS. We spent many an hour together, I think we both saw Letterman for the first time one late night during the system conversion. He was the real force behind the changes in finance there. He will be missed by many of us.

Please let us know when the memorial service will be in Michigan, a place he loved dearly.

  7. Pat
We just found out about George. Needless to say, we are very saddened. We were just talking about you two this morning. I was going to call George today and ask him when you would be taking your annual trip to Michigan. We have been trying to figure out how we could get back to Ashville or Michigan to see you or to see if you wanted to come down to either Fort Myers or Richmond. In times like this, it’s the lost opportunities that make you ache with sorrow.
I loved and respected George for his many fine qualities, but what I loved best was his love of his family, his wonderful sense of humor, and his big heart. George was a special friend, someone I always felt comfortable discussing any topic with, always knowing we would both walk away either laughing ourselves silly or be better educated on the subject matter. I am going to miss that kind of friendship.
Pat, if there is anything you need, please know that we are here for you. Also, please let us know when the Memorial Service will be in Michigan.
You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

  8. George was my neighbor (across the street) for the past few years. I will miss him. He was a well-read, intelligent man with whom I enjoyed conversation. We, also, shared a few jokes along the way. I wish I could have had more time to get to know him better. I reget that our friendship was so brief. We still had so many stories to tell and unlimited quantities of ‘BS’ to pass around. He was fun to be with in that way.
    So long, George the First!
    (from George the Second)
