FLAT ROCK - George Schroeder went peacefully to be with the Lord on July 2, 2010, surrounded by his family.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion Schroeder, two sisters, Sally Domingez and Rosemary Matthies, and beloved son, Richard.
He was born in Scranton, PA, spent two years in the Army, then attended the University of Kansas. He and the family moved to Asheville in 1966; he retired from Square D in 1995 and moved to Flat Rock in 2002.
George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pat, and a brother, Richard Schroeder and his wife, Linda.
The focus of his life was his family; he leaves three daughters, Linda Medford, Debbie Rice and her husband, Alan, and Janet Shearon and her husband, Kip; and grandchildren, Carl Hollifield and wife, Carrie, Robyn Kendall and her husband, Clint, Kelsey Medford, and Sean Rice and his wife, Nicole.
George was a very special husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched and enriched by his talents and wit. He was quick to take in someone who needed a place to stay; feed someone who was hungry, or help fix anything.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling, both for vacation and mission work. He loved golf, family gatherings and helping others.
His faith was strong and we know he is in a better place where there will be no pain, only joy.
A Mass to celebrate his life will be concelebrated by the Rev. Frs. Carl T. Del Giudice and Ed Sheridan at St. Eugene Catholic Church, Asheville, at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6th.
Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Alan Rice.
The family will receive friends in the church social hall following the service.
Flowers will be accepted and appreciated, or memorials may be made to Family Services of Davidson County, PO Box 607, Lexington, NC 27293, ABCCM, 24 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Interfaith Assistance Ministry, 210 Ehringhaus Street, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting with the arrangements.

George was a fine friend of our family.
George was a truly sweet soul. He and Pat’s generosity and kindness are beyond compare. They shared their home and good Christian values with so many; I feel blessed to have known them. George’s easy nature made him instantly lovable and approachable. He had such a way with people, making them feel happy, understood, welcome and good. So many people’s lives were enriched and better for knowing George. Pat, you are stronger than you may realize. Your work isn’t done. No words can make you feel better. No outpouring of love and affection can make your loss bearable. But, I do know there is a new angel in heaven and George will be taking any and all measures possible on your behalf. God bless. Love, Lori
My dearest friend, the special bond we share needs no words at this time for you know I am right by your side in spirit now and always will be. Take my strength to help you through this. Forever we will be connected in our hearts. Your friend, Peggy

Dear Pat and Family, Please know our thoughts are with all of you. We loved George very much and we are so happy we kept in touch after we moved. His caring and giving was a part of who he is/was and both Pat and George became family to us. Our hearts are aching for all of you and no words can fill the void at this time but knowing he was loved by many will give you comfort. George is now an angel in heaven watching down on all of you. May God give you the strength to see you through this. Peggy & Bob
