Born in: Blount County, GA
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Georgellen Pratt Henson, 88, of Asheville, N.C., passed away August 25, 2019, peacefully after succumbing to the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Born December 11, 1930, in Blount County, Alabama, Georgellen graduated from high school in Childersberg, Alabama and then went on to nursing school. Through the years she worked with several doctors and dentists.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Melvin and Arnice Pratt; sisters Betty Lou McCullough and Ann P. Scoggins. She is survived by daughter Cathy Dayle Henson, son Kyle Scott Henson and wife Beth, and her grandson Jared Nathaniel Henson.

Georgellen was a loving woman who always put her children first. In the 18 years that she lived beside her son and daughter in law, she was the primary caregiver for her grandson, Jared. The relationship they shared was extraordinary and she was able to pass along her love of reading to him. She was always involved in his life, even opening doors to greet all children at his elementary school. In recent years, she often referred to him as her “stroller baby”, remembering the walks she took with him and treasured time spent together.

The staff where she resided for the last 4 years of her life remembers her fondly for her gracious nature.

It with great sadness that we see her time pass on earth, but knowing she has gone to a greater place where confusion is gone and memories are restored brings joy to our hearts.

I will never forget the first time I met her picking you up for our first date….she was so pretty…and then thru the years I realized how sweet she was. I am so sorry I did not know earlier so I could have reached out at a more appropriate time…..God Bless
