Geraldine "Gerry" Gladys Simons

Geraldine “Gerry” (Maggione) Simons, 93, of Mills River, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Elizabeth House, Hendersonville. Born in Groveland, NY, she was the wife of the late George A. Simons, and the daughter of the late Felix and Mary (Hickox) Maggione. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Simons; two sisters, Esther Colton and Marie Childs, and two brothers, Norman and Walter Maggione. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church, Asheville. Gerry loved her family and Atlanta Braves baseball. An excellent cook, she also enjoyed reading and playing bingo at The Lodge in Mills River, where she previously resided. She had worked as a beautician and owned her own beauty shop. Gerry is survived by a son, William C. Simons and his wife Sherry of Peoria, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Simons of Asheville; 6 grandchildren: Jeff, Kelly, Jenny, Chris, Greg, and Matt; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Doughty. Gerry will be laid to rest next to her husband at Woodlawn National Veteran’s Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Memorial services at Grace Covenant Church will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerry’s memory may be made to the church Memorial Garden Fund at 789 Merrimon Ave, Asheville, NC 28804, or to Elizabeth House, 581 S. Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
