Gladys L. Head Wilson Edwards, 92, of Asheville, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Emerald Ridge Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Born in Beaufort, SC, she was the eldest daughter of the late Herbert Millard and Iva Smith Head of Swannanoa. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Emmett Wilson, Millard Wilson and William Edwards.
Mrs. Edwards attended Swannanoa School and worked at Nicely’s Cafe in Oteen, the Mayflower Restaurant in West Asheville and retired from the Hot Shot in Biltmore in 1975. She was co-owner and operator of the Asheville Court Motel and the Twilight Apartments.
Survivors include six children, Edward J. Wilson of Manhatten, NY, Doris Costner and her husband Howard of Asheville, Emmett T. Wilson and his wife Joy of Edgewood, NM, Ruth W. Pritchard and her husband Robert of Chapin, SC, John M. Wilson of Charlotte and William E. Edwards, Jr. of the home; a brother, William O. Head of Albany, KY; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home of Doris and Howard Costner and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or the Salvation Army, 204 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
