Arden ~ Gladys Betsy Houston Hollifield, 88, of 360 Cedar Lane, Arden, died on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at her residence.
A native of Asheville, Gladys lived the last years of her life with her youngest daughter and son-in-law in Arden. Gladys spent her long life as a loving mother, grandmother, homemaker, avid reader, and gardener.
She was the daughter of the late Delbert Eugene and Hester Evie Brank Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ed Hollifield. Gladys was also preceded in death by two brothers, Grier Houston and Floyd Houston, three sisters, Arizona Crook, Matilda (Sallie) Bugg, and Bertie Chambers.
Gladys is survived by two sons, Eddie Nelson Hollifield of Marshall and Roeby Dale Hollifield of Asheville; three daughters, Barbara Gwenette Bradley of Asheville, Brenda Sue Wiggins of Enka, and Teresa Anne Robinson of Arden; ten grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in Green Hills Cemetery, with her beloved grandson, Pastor Phillip Edwin Simmons officiating.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Simmons, Dustin Simmons, Nathan Simmons, Christopher Prutzman, Anthony Prutzman and Cameron Lister.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
At other times, family and friends are welcome at the home of Brenda and Marshall Wiggins, 191 Medford Branch Road, Candler, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Community Care Partners, P.O. Box 25338 Asheville, NC 28813.
