Glenn Wesley Courtney, 58, of 346 Flat Creek Road, Fairview, died Saturday, January 31, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Courtney was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Edward Ward and Lou Etta White Courtney.
He served with the First Air Calvary Division, US Army, during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, and a Sharp-shooter's medal. He worked in both farming and construction.
He was a loving husband and father, who enjoyed fishing and racing.
Surviving are his wife, Lisa Ross Courtney; two daughters, Amber and Brooke McConnell of the home; one sister, Teresa Courtney of Fairview and one brother, Francis "Junior" Courtney, of Fairview.
The funeral will be at 12:00 noon Tuesday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Michael B. Harrill, Jr. officiating and military honors provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council. Interment will follow in the Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

Glenn was a wonderful Husband, Father, Brother and Friend. Everytime I saw him he always had a smile on his face. I know he will be deeply missed by many. Remember the good times you shared with him and know that he is in Gods presences now.
