Gloria Lois Bowen McCoy, 95, of Greensboro NC, passed away on May 20, 2022, after a long illness.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, John Philip McCoy, Sr., and a granddaughter, Diana Townsend.
Mrs. McCoy, born June 21, 1926, in Cleveland, OH, was the daughter of Dana Thomas and Lois Snow Bowen. She moved to Daytona Beach in 1936 and attended Lenox Ave. Elementary and graduated from Seabreeze High School, class of 1944. She attended Duke University where she met her husband. They returned to live in Daytona in 1961, retiring to Asheville, NC, in 1990, where she lived until 2011. She and Mr. McCoy were long-time seasonal residents of Little Switzerland. She was active for many years in the Cherry Laurel Garden Club, a volunteer at the Volusia Easter Seal Society and served on the altar guilds of St. James Episcopal Church in Ormond, St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, Black Mountain, NC, and Church of the Resurrection, Little Switzerland, NC.
She is survived by her children, Dana McCoy Anderson (Jim), Watkinsville, GA, John Philip McCoy, Jr. (Cathy) Brunswick, GA, and Carol McCoy Townsend (Mark), Greensboro, NC, and a sister, Phoebe Bowen Olson, of Oregon. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Owen Anderson, Helena Anderson, Michael McCoy, Mark Townsend, Jr., John Townsend, and Victoria Townsend, and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be June 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, Fletcher NC, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
