Grace went peacefully home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2018. She was born September 25, 1923 in Clay County, NC and was the beloved baby daughter of Harley Everette Scroggs and Harriett Pearl Hampton Scroggs of Brasstown, NC. Grace was a loving wife to Ralph Beale for 59 years and proud mother of Douglas and Kathy Beale. In addition to her son Douglas and his wife Kathy, those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Dennis and his wife Mary Ann of Indiana, Christin of California, Heidi of Colorado, Brandon and his wife Lisa of Indiana, Brett of Scottsdale, Arizona and Aaron and his wife Lena of Chicago, Illinois. Grace inspired a generation of 11 great-grandchildren. She had special favor for one niece, Helen Reese Graham of South Carolina and a special friend, Phillip Penland of Asheville. Grace was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters, her husband Ralph, daughter Kathy, and granddaughter Kirsta. Mrs. Beale was a member of Acton United Methodist Church and a pillar of her community. She served in many areas including, as a Sunday School teacher for 20 years, the President of United Methodist Women, Chairman of Stewardship Finance Committee and the Parsonage Committee. Mrs. Beale enjoyed playing the accordion with Fritz Albertson and the Amazing Grace Trio. Grace also served as President of the Irene Wortham Center for 3 years as secretary and treasurer for the Buncombe County Association of Retarded Children. Mrs. Beale found tremendous joy in her work assisting her husband Ralph in the operation of Beale Jewelry at Enka for 41 years. Grace’s loyalty and service to the community are to be admired. Her family will cherish memories of her lighthearted personality, sunny disposition and cheerful attitude. Grace was truly amazing and her family feels blessed to have shared life with her. The funeral service will be held at Acton United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., graveside service to follow. Reception location will be announced at the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Acton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 171 Sand Hill School Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
