Grace Shuler Matthews, 80, of 44 Poplar Cove Road, Candler, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the WNC Baptist Retirement Home. Mrs. Matthews was born in Macon County and was a daughter of the late Harley Thomas and Lelia Johnson Shuler. She was married to Fred P. Matthews, who died in 1979, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Estella S. Sorrells and a brother, Covar Lewis Shuler. Mrs. Matthews worked at Ball Glass Manufacturing Corporation for 30 years. She is survived by two daughters, Freda Dills and her husband, Steve, of Candler and Sheila Hill and her husband, Ronald William, of Canton; four grandchildren, Dwayne M. Dills, Angelina D. Deitz, Melanie R. Stockton and Karen R. Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Allison, Chris, Jordan, Amyia, Bailey, Owen, Dylan, Austin, Caleb and Mylee; and two brothers, Leonard Glenn Shuler and James Elmer Shuler. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Steve Dills, Ronald Hill, David Shuler, Shane Stockton, Jarrod Deitz, and Greg Lawrence. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
