Harm Bergin Adkins, 75, of 671 Enka Lake Road, Candler, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at a local hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Bergin William and Ercie Phillips Adkins. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Iness Adkins and four brothers, Clifton, Clyde, Warren and Duff Adkins. He was retired from BASF after 43 years of service and was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife, Iness Marshall Adkins; a daughter, Theresa Lowe of Siler City; two sisters, Blanche Ledbetter of Candler and Sue Lewis of Morehead City; a brother, Douglas Adkins of North Augusta, SC; three grandchildren, Randy Welch and his wife Christy, Nichole Lowe and Trent Lowe and three great-grandchildren, Cyrena, Meredith and Bergin Welch. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Roy Houston officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Case Cove Road, Candler, NC 28715.

  1. Uncle H.B. was the best, he was loved and will be sorely missed! I will never forget his love and caring for my Mom after Daddy died. He was a wonderful brother!
