Harold M. "Sambo" King, 71, of Asheville, died on Friday, November 23, 2018, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe Co., Harold was a son of Bashie Griffin King and the late Jesse Howard King. Harold was loved dearly by his family and friends and returned that love. Bashie dedicated the past 71 years of her life to him, never leaving his side. He truly loved his Mommy.
Harold loved baseball cards, cars and trucks, and gospel music, especially "I'll Fly Away." He was always smiling and never met a stranger. His family will remember him lovingly as their sunshine.
In addition to his mother, Harold is survived by his sisters, Joan Worley (David) and Darlene Teague (Tommy); nieces, Tina Worley (Larry), Tonya King (Glenn) and April Teague (Ricky); great-nephew, Tyler Anderson (Jenny); great-nieces, Tristian Anderson, Trinity Anderson, and Taylor Sparks; and great-great-nieces, Kinsley and Kaidyn Anderson.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
