Harriet H. Thatcher, 87, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Clinton, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Jesse Hopp. She was a graduate of Clinton Central School in 1945 and attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1946-47. Harriet married her husband, Robert Thatcher on September 10, 1949 and she is survived by four children, Thomas L. Thatcher of Alvin, TX, Richard G. Thatcher of Hamilton, TX, Susan T. Atwell of Grand Island, NE and Tracy C. Thatcher of Asheville. Also surviving are two sisters, Susan H. Crofoot of Cold Spring, NY and Barbara H. Kesauer of Clayton, OH; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Harriet was involved in many volunteer activities including an arts and crafts group at Mission-St. Joseph Hospitals from 1993 until 1999. She prepared floral arrangements and condolence cards for homebound members of Biltmore United Methodist Church and was a member of the Hendersonville Art League. She prepared numerous watercolor pictures for display at the Opportunity House in Hendersonville and in her home prepared numerous craft items. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Skyland United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Keith Turman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John F. Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
