Hazel Guthrie Garbee, 99, of West Asheville, died on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Givens Highland Farms.
Born on September 15, 1918 in Buncombe Co., Hazel was the daughter of the late Oscar M. and Mamie Johnson Guthrie. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Stanley Stuart Garbee, three sisters, and one brother.
Mrs. Garbee was a 1938 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School. She was a member of West Asheville Presbyterian Church for over 60 years.
Surviving are her two daughters, Robin Thompson and husband Sam of Atlanta and Virginia Sanders of Asheville; grandchildren, Bobby Gene Sanders and Katherine Thompson Kelsey (Matt); and great-grandchildren, Grace and Grant Kelsey.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday March 8 at West Asheville Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Kent Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Black Mountain at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery beside her husband who served his country in WW II.
Her family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I worked with Stanley for several years in the 60’s and 70’s. I remember Hazel as a very sweet lady. God Bless.
