Hazel Nell Parker Lance, 89, of 780 Justice Ridge Road, Candler, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Nora Drake Parker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James G. “Dock: Lance who died in 1999; a son, James A. “Whitey” Lance who died in 2003; three sisters, Tincy Setzler, Glenn Lowery and Bobbie Kate Plemmons. Mrs. Lance worked for a number of years at W.T. Grant Co. and was a member at Pole Creek Baptist Church.
A very strong, loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend, she is survived by a son, Thomas “Tom” Walter Lance of Candler; a special friend, daughter and sister, all rolled into one, Ann Smith of Candler; five grandchildren, Lt. Leslie Hull-Ryde of the US Navy, Bahrain, Tracey McGaha of Greenville, TN, Chip Lance of Candler, Keith Lance of Candler and April Lance of Mobile, AL; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Jay, Jake, Brandy and Garrett.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Keith Lance, Chip Lance, Jake Lance, Ronnie Lowery, Sean Smith, Nikkie Setzler, Roger Lance and David Plemmons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Mrs. Lance.

Sorry to hear about the passing of a great lady and dear cousin. She will be missed no doubt.
Our condolences go out to Hazel’s family. Hazel was one of my favorite aunts and I always loved visting her family and sons as we grew up together. We will miss her.
