Henry Joe Britt, Jr. 78, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. He was the son of the late Henry Joe Britt, Sr and Betty Jamison Britt.

Joe was born June 10, 1943, in Greenville, SC, but spent most of his life in Asheville. He was in the hospitality industry. The Britt family and business partner founded the Holiday Inn franchises in western North Carolina. Joe managed the Hendersonville location. He ventured into the beer distribution business with a beer distributorship, representing several brands, for several years. Eventually ending up back in hospitality managing several hotels. The past 20 years he managed Comfort Inn and Suites in Parkersburg, West Virginia. This hotel won several national awards including “Inn of the Year”. After retiring he moved back to Asheville.

He attended public school in Asheville and graduated from Swanee Military Academy, Swanee, TN. Joe also attended the Citadel and East Tennessee State University. He was active in the Army Reserve during the 1960’s, and left the service with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Asheville Jaycees. Joe was also a long-time member of Rotary Club of Parkersburg, WVA, Hickory, NC, and Asheville. He was a member of the Asheville Country Club and Parkersburg Country Club. He was a long-time member of Central Methodist Church Asheville NC.

Joe enjoyed traveling to visit his 4 children and 5 grandchildren. He loved playing golf. He also very much enjoyed reconnecting with his friends from Asheville. His “Taste Buds” group was a weekly event he looked forward too. Joe was well liked and loved. He had an infectious smile and sense of humor and never met a stranger. He will be missed.

Joe is survived by his sister, Carol Britt Porter and husband Jim of Yadkinville, NC; two daughters, Allison Britt of Branford, CT, and Laura Tucci and husband Nick of Reading, MA. Two sons, Joey Britt and wife Bonnie of Franklin, TN; Stephen Britt of Candler, NC; 5 Grandchildren, Noah and Tessa Tucci, Aiden Wright, Cash Britt, Jamison Britt, a nephew Bobby Johnson and niece Kristine Eason.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March, 11, 20220 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rob Blackburn. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.

A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm, Friday, March 11 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.

  2. Joe will be missed by all who knew him. I knew Joe from our days in the Asheville Jaycees in the 60′ til very recently as members of a weekly lunch group called the Tastebuds. He was my longest lasting and best friend. I will miss him and his big smile.

  4. I met Joe in the early 1990’s when he hired me to assist him with the opening and operation of the Comfort Suites in Mineral Wells, WV. We shared many a laugh and much workplace pride and during that time and remained in touch for several years after I moved out of state as he was also my mother’s Woodland Park neighbor in Parkersburg, WV. To his family, my sincere condolences. Joe’s chuckle and playful smile will be forever remembered – may he Rest In Peace.
