Born in: Asheville, NC
Resided in: Anderson, SC

Herbert Elmore Elkins, Jr., 99, passed away peacefully at his home on December 20, 2025 with his loving daughter by his side.

Born in Asheville, NC on April 22, 1926, Mr. Elkins was the son of the late Herbert Elmore Elkins Sr. and Florence Bradford Kent. Mr. Elkins raised his four children in Candler, NC, and later moved to Anderson, SC in 2003. Mr. Elkins proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, a chapter of his life he carried with dignity. After returning home, he worked as an electrician with his father in the family business, Elkins Electric Co., providing skill, dedication, integrity and honesty to all. Mr. Elkins was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple in Anderson, SC.

Family was at the center of his life. Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by his loving wife, Opal W. Elkins (2011), as well as his son, Randall Elkins (2015), and two grandsons, Ryan Parker and Steve Elkins, of SC.

Mr. Elkins is survived by his daughter, Deborah Elkins, of SC; two sons, Daniel H. Elkins of Arden, NC and Carroll Elkins of Candler, NC; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, all who played a part of his legacy.

Mr. Elkins was known for his strong will, dry sense of humor, and love for things that mattered to him, especially his Ford truck. Those that knew him will smile remembering that, just as they’ll remember his stories, wisdom and the quiet, steady way he loved. He will be missed, and fondly remembered and forever loved by all who had the priviledge of knowing him.

The family wishes to express special love and thanks to his granddaughter, Jennifer Elkins, for her loving care.

Funeral services for Mr. Elkins will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastor Sam Duncan officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
