Homer Howell, 94, of 340 Emma Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, November 15, 2000 in a local nursing facility. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Henry and Vennie Walsh Howell. He was a retired employee of Sands & Company,an Army Veteran of WW II and a member of Emma United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Katie Reeves Howell; daughters, Doris Harron of Pisgah Forest, Martha Ledford of Asheville; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Rev. Wes Sharpe will officiate with burial following in Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Emma United Methodist Church, 59 Adams Hill Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
