Houston A. Hawkins

Mr. Hawkins was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Kelly and Thelma Hayes Hawkins.  He was an Army veteran of WW II and participated in the Drive to the Rhine.  He served under General Patton in the 12th Armored Division and Battery A, 495th Armored Field Artillery Battalion.

He retired from American Enka after 42 years and was a charter member of Averys Creek United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Hawkins.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace Virginia Ingle Hawkins, two daughters, Cathy Hawkins and Vickie Hawkins;  three sisters, Beatrice Styles, Opalee Pruitt and Christine King, and a brother, K.C. Hawkins.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Averys Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neill Shaw officiating.  Burial will be in Roberts Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from   7 - 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Averys Creek United Methodist Church, 16 Fullam Drive, Arden, NC 28704.
