Howard LaFaine Howell

Howard LaFaine Howell, 82, beloved father and friend, was called Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Mr. Howell was a graduate of Candler High School, class of 1950. He worked as a utilities supervisor at American Enka, retiring after 38 years. He was a member of Glady Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a lifetime member of the Scottish Rites, a member of Masonic Lodge #491, and a 32° Mason. Mr. Howell will be remembered as a devoted father, community member, and avid sportsman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Beatrice Elliott Howell, who died in 2014; and by his daughter, Debra H. Stepp, who died in 1989. He is survived by his children, Linda Stewart, Ron and Kathy, Randy and Sarah; sisters, Barbara Letterman and Betty Elliott and husband Henry; brothers, James A. and Kenneth R. Howell; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mr. Howell will be on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Glady Baptist Church with the Rev. David Grindstaff and the Rev. Greg Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave., and for one hour prior to the service on Friday at Glady Baptist Church.
