Inez Eileen Caton Pires, 86, of 690 Sand Hill Rd., Asheville, NC, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2006, at her residence. A resident of Asheville for the last 10 years, Mrs. Pires was born in Bermuda and was the daughter of the late Richard Edmund King, Jr. and Alice Young King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Latimero D. “Maddy” Pires, who died in 1997 and by her son, Richard Edmund Pires, who died in 1989. Along with her husband, Mrs. Pires owned and operated Maddy’s Market and later worked as a sales associate at the Country Shoe Shop, both in Hamilton and Paget, Bermuda. Mrs. Pires was a member of Asheville North Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Pires is survived by her daughter, J. Loretta Bartlett of Asheville; son Michael Pires of Asheville; grandchildren, Charles T. Bartlett, Jr., Teresa Ann Pires, Paul Judd Pires, and Steven Tyler Pires; and great-grandchildren, Marcus A.C. Lyons and Amanda M. Lyons, and Anna M. Bartlett, Emily J. Bartlett, and C. Thomas Bartlett, III. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. in Asheville. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens. Memorials may be made to Asheville North Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 364 Broadway, Asheville, NC, 28801.
