Arden – Ira McCure Taylor, Jr., 76, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013. Ira was born on June 17, 1937 to the late Ira and Mattie Taylor in Lyons Kansas. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and the National Climatic Center. He was a veteran of Vietnam and attended Seacoast Church. He was President of the Air Force Sergeants Assoc., Commander of VFW Post 9939 and a member of the Buncombe County Veterans Council. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sheila Kay Taylor; one son, Mark Taylor and his wife Oksana and two grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 9, 2013 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with military honors and Pastor Alex Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ABCCM Veterans Shelter, 1329 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.

  5. Sheila, we were shocked and saddened to hear of Mack’s passing. You two were a staple at Seacoast, and I always enjoyed our talks at the Info Center. You could always depend on Mack to have his cup of steaming coffee! You two had such a heart for outreach, especially Samaritan’s Purse, and David and I count ourselves blessed to know you. Love and prayers during this difficult time.

  13. I was very saddened to hear about Ira. He was the District 16 Quartermaster. I then became Quartermaster, an now I am the District 16 Commander for the VFW. He was always concerned about the Veterans and his Post. Ira was a good Man and friend.

  14. The instructors and cadets of Enka High School Air Force Junior ROTC were very saddened to hear of Ira’s passing. He was always a strong supporter of our program, and we always enjoyed his smiling presence at our Awards Ceremony. His Air Force service brought honor to himself, his family, and his country. We will truly miss him.

We didn’t know him well, but whenever we saw him we recognized a sweet and gentle spirit who we know loved Jesus. Praying you will be comforted by Holy Spirit as only He can.

  23. I knew Mack in Great Bend, KS where Mack and I graduated from Great Bend High School in 1955 and attended Baker Avenue Baptist Church. I’ve enjoyed talking with Mack and Sheila at recent GBHS 1955 Reunions. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sadness and grief.

  24. I was just an A2C when I worked briefly with TSgt Taylor in SEA in 1966. His hard work and vigor were evident even to a young airman. I will be looking forward to seeing him again – in a place where nothing goes wrong anymore!
