Asheville ~ J Edwin Houk, 77, of Givens Estates in Asheville passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center.
He was born in Burke County and was the son of the late John Robert Houk and Allie Herron Houk. He was a graduate of Duke University and Methodist minister for 45 years. He was a minister of Divinity and the former minister of Skyland United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Walter Robert Houk and wife Teresa; a step-grandson, Chris Satterfield all of Charlotte; sister, Mary Houk of Givens Estates in Asheville; a brother, James L. Houk and wife Trudy of Marietta, GA; a niece, Melonie Dennison and husband Greg and a great-nephew, Derrick Dennison all of Caneyville, KY.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 P.M. Friday, August 28, 2009 at Skyland United Methodist Church with the Revs. Keith Turman and Joe Fulk officiating. Interment will follow in Pisgah Gardens Cemetery in Pisgah Forest.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:30 P.M. on Friday prior to the service at the church.
