Jack C. “Paw” Blankenship, 79, of 22 Dry Ferry Road, Asheville, died Saturday, July 16, 2005.
Mr. Blankenship was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Horace Cleveland and Mable C. Brigman Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Wilma Rogers Blankenship in 1989 and Geneva Spivey Blankenship in 2002, by a son, Michael Blankenship and by a brother Robert Blankenship. He was retired from American Enka and was a member and deacon at New Salem Baptist Church.
Surviving is his daughter, Rebecca Simmons and her husband Larry of Asheville, three grandchildren, Vincent Simmons, Laura Hunter and her husband Darin and Kristen Simmons, one great-granddaughter, Kaitlin and a special friend Margaret Goodwin.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Kuykendall officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
