Asheville ~ Jack C. Alexander, 85, passed away on June 11, 2005. Born on April 26, 1920, he was the eighth child of the late John Carlis and Lottie Miller Alexander. He graduated from Biltmore High School and attended Biltmore College before joining the U.S. Army. He trained at Drew Field in Tampa, Florida and Orlando Air Base in Orlando, Florida before going overseas at the age of 22 and serving in the signal corps. He arrived in North Africa and served in several locations, traveling Italy extensively. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Jack returned to Asheville. He lived briefly in Miami, Florida, but primarily lived his whole life in the family home in Asheville (Biltmore). He worked for many years at Morgan Brothers, Inc. Jack spent his last five years at the Marjorie McCune Center in Black Mountain. In addition to his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by his brothers, Frederick P. Alexander and Frank C. Alexander; sisters, Katherlene “Doris” Alexander, Virginia Davenport, Geraldine Jordan, Ida Lee Strandberg, and Willa Simmonite. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families, and his friend and caregiver, Debra Brower of Arden. A graveside service will be held Thursday 11:00 A.M. in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
