Jack Conley Burnette

Jack Conley Burnette, 81, of Asheville, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Aston Park Health Care Center.
Mr. Burnette was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Carl F. and Deeme Griffin Burnette. He was also preceded in death by a brother Carl Vonno Burnette.
He served under General Patton during WW II in the Third Army, Company F, 97th Infantry Division and was a Bronze Star Recipient and a member of VFW Post 891. Mr. Burnette retired as an engineer from Southern Railroad after 38 years service. He was a 50-year member of the West Asheville Masonic Lodge and a member of Abernethy United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife OF 58 years, Catherine Lewis Burnette; one daughter, Carolyn Burnette Rogers and her husband Jack Brown Rogers of Charlotte; a grandson, Jack Brown Rogers, Jr. (“Brownie”) and a granddaughter Catherine Ashley Rogers (Ashley); two brothers, Charles E. Burnette and Wayne C. Burnette and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Henry R. “Rusty” Inman, Jr. officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council at Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Air Conditioning Fund of Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
