Jackie Reed Smith Gooden

A native of Orangeburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Walter Charlton and Ruby Reed Smith Sr. She had lived in Buncombe County since 1971 and was married to the late F.B. “Buddy” Gooden who died in 1994. They were the former owners of Gooden Mobile Homes and former owners and promoters of the Asheville Motor Speedway.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Ledford and Kim Wells of Candler; a sister, Marion Gibson of Dayton, OH; a brother, Walter Smith of Columbia, SC; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Mrs. Marian C. Calhoun officiating. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and at other times will be at her residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, 2 Hanover Square, Suite 1600, Raleigh, NC 27601.
