James D. Earwood

Arden, NC - James D. Earwood, 79, of 2 Butler Road, died Saturday, July 14, 2001 in the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, NC.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Aaron Earwood and Minnie Owenby Earwood. He was the husband of the late Ruby Connor Earwood and also was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Wilson.
Mr. Earwood was in the US Army during WW II and received three battle stars. He served in France and in Germany and was in the Battle of the Bulge and Crossing the Rhyne. He retired from CP & L after 41 years of service. He attended Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville.
Surviving are, his wife, Verden O. Smith Earwood; one daughter JoAnn Shepherd of Christmass, FL; one son Jimmie Earwood of Skyland, NC; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 17, 2001 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian 72 Long Shoals Road, Arden, NC 28704, with the Rev. Jerry Young
officiating.
Interment will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Weaverville, NC.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
