James Donald Maxwell, 69, of 28 Sunset Drive, Swannanoa, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the Hospice Solace Center.

Mr. Maxwell was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late James Edward and Mary Frances Youngblood Maxwell. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Wilkie Longshore. He served as a staff sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a former supervisor with Cranston.

Surviving are his daughter, Donna Flynn and her husband Kelsie of Swannanoa; two sons, James Donald (Jimmy) Maxwell II of Swannanoa and Timothy Edward Maxwell and his wife Lana Jo Bradley Maxwell of Black Mountain; one grandson, Kaylan MacKenzie Flynn; and five nieces and nephews, Frank Wilkie of Taylors, SC, Claudia Cunningham and Annette Beck of Fletcher, Barbara Black of Arden, and Beth McPherson of Virginia Beach.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. James Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery.

His family will receive friends at the cemetery chapel one hour prior to the service.

In appreciation of the care given to Mr. Maxwell, his family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802.
