James “Jim” Howard Thompson, Jr., 77, of Arden, passed away at his residence on Friday, November 26, 2021.
A native of Huntington, WV, he was the son of the late Dorothy Chapman Thompson and James Howard Thompson Sr.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rachel Garren Thompson; two sons, James Howard Thompson III (Diane) and Joshua Allen Thompson (Helen); three grandchildren, Christy Blackburn, Willoughby Thompson and Moses Thompson; one great-granddaughter, Emma; one sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Dorsey and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy and was the owner/operator of Thompson Mechanical, Inc., which he established in 1976. He was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
A memorial service to honor Jim will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30 at Fletcher First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Fletcher First Baptist Church, PO Box 1658, Fletcher, NC 28732 or to a charity of one’s own choice.

Rachel, Jim was such a sweet man. We really enjoyed getting to know him while we were going to First Baptist. He was always so friendly and smiling. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
